Here come da judge(ment)
Los Angeles CA - October 20, 2009 - -
I've been reading about Criminal Court Judge Matthew A. Sciarrino, Jr. in Brooklyn. His Honor, according to Switched.com, "failed to conduct his public, social networking activities in an intelligent and professional manner". Nevertheless, he has my admiration - not for his unprofessional conduct - but for being able to draw that much attention to himself on Facebook.
My own experience on social networking Facebook has been neither very social nor networking. Much like the old days of AOL, it appears to be a favorite tool of grandmothers, cooking fanatics, and those consumed with the angst of the breeding years. It's a mystery to me how anyone attracts any attention since everything I've posted couldn't have had a cooler reception if a dose of H1N1 had been attached to it. My wife's experience was the polar opposite; within two days of establishing her page, old high school chums came "out of the woodwork" (her description), and she soon even re-connected with long-lost relatives. In fact, had it not been for her drumming up some activity on my behalf, my page would probably still have about three friends. As it is, I now have quite a few. I couldn't pick them out of a lineup, you understand, but they're my friends, and I have the power of the Internet to prove it.
So, I'll continue to plant my Facebook Trees (as in, "If I post to Facebook and no one is around to read it, did it even exist at all?") because I'm a social guy, and gosh, everyone likes to network.
Take heart Judge Sciarrino, you may have been disciplined, but you're a real inspiration to me.
Hello? Hello? Is anyone...?
